The Artists Statement

This mural design celebrates Adrian's harmonious balance of historic preservation and contemporary vibrancy. It captures the city's architectural heritage - the beautifully preserved historic buildings that define the downtown's distinctive character. At the same time, it vividly depicts the lively social scene that animates this cherished public space, showcasing the community coming together to enjoy the area's charm and ambience.

Through the use of vibrant colors and intricate digital brushwork, the mural aims to enhance the overall liveliness and dynamism of the downtown environment. It hopefully invites passersby to engage with the scene, drawing them in to appreciate both the overall composition and the fine artistic details. The ultimate goal is to create an immersive, captivating visual tribute that honors Adrian's ability to honor its storied past while embracing the energy of the present.

I'm an artist who grew up in Adrian. In the 70s, I attended the Dayton Art Institute and Siena Heights University and have painted many public and private murals in the early years of my artistic endeavors, including several murals with my dear friend and fellow artist Martin Moreno. For the past 4 decades, I've worked in the advertising industry, creating all kinds and sizes of images from billboards to television, so I have expert knowledge of resolution requirements and color reproduction. Seven or so years ago, I decided to commit myself to creating my art almost exclusively using digital media as my painting medium. That's why, as a hometown boy, I decided to submit my work. If selected, I will work with your printing company to ensure the best possible reproduction and that the City of Adrian has another reason to be proud.
